Readoption Day!

A post by Mary Eby

A little over a week ago marked 3 months that we’ve been home! In some ways it feels like we never left, yet in others if feels like our Nigerian adventure was just yesterday! We are so very thankful to be back and are constantly reminded what a blessing it is to be with our friends and family. Betsie and Corrie are thriving and love all the fun things we can do in America. They are in Kindergarten with Elijah and just starting to learn how to read.

Today we went to court to readopt Betsie and Corrie. This basically just means that they will be issued a US birth certificate which will come in handy later when they need to get their drivers’ licenses, etc. It’s more of a formality, but still exciting. It used to be an optional step after the boys’ adoptions, but it is now a requirement. That’s fine though, as we always do it anyways.

Other than yearly reports and some social worker visits, this is the last step in their adoption journey that began way back in October of 2019. I’m so thankful they’re a part of our family!

Here are some pictures from court today. The judge was nice and let us take one with her, and she even had the girls bang the gavel to make it official!

Even More Possibilities

Ethiopia has been the number 1 place on our list of where to go while waiting for the twins’ visas after having adopted them in Nigeria. However, an uprising against the government is taking place in Ethiopia right now, making it an unsafe place to travel to. This uprising will likely turn into a war which will still be going on in the Spring when we intend to travel.

So we are now searching for a new place to stay while we wait for Betsie and Corrie’s visas to come home. Our top options are England and Barbados. It is difficult because we are looking for a place that either doesn’t require visas, or gives cheap visas to both Americans and Nigerians. We also want the place to be safe, close to a body of believers, and within walking distance of grocery stores, etc.

We appreciate your prayers as we are trying to find a place to stay for potentially a year. Also, we are praying as a family that it won’t take that long. We are hoping that God will make a way so we don’t even have to leave Nigeria and can only be gone for a couple of months.

“And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us.” 1 John 5:14

“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 1 Peter 3:12

“I cried to Him with my mouth, and high praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished iniquity on my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; He has attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, because He has not rejected my prayer or removed His steadfast love from me!” Psalm 66:17-20

Elijah is recovering very well from his surgery. Nathan’s surgery is coming up on December 3rd, and Hannah is coming home from college for Christmas break on December 10th.

7 Month Betsie & Corrie Day!

A post by Mary Eby

On October 24, we celebrated 7 months of waiting. 5 more to go!

This time we had chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting and chocolate ganache filling. Here is a picture:

Thank you for praying for our journey, and please don’t forget to spread the word about my adoption fundraiser.

6 Month Betsie & Corrie Day

A post by Mary Eby

On September 24th, we celebrated 6 months of waiting for Betsie and Corrie. We are halfway there! We made some bracelets with friends to remind us to pray for the twins as we wait. They are white and green, because those are the colors of the Nigerian flag. We also celebrated with cupcakes, as always. Here are some pictures:

Just for fun- the Nigerian flag

Have a great week!

Waiting and Waiting

A post by Mary Eby

Waiting for Betsie and Corrie has become extra hard lately. This is because we recently received 3 videos and several pictures of the twins being told about us. It was a lot of fun to watch them looking at pictures of each of us and saying our names.

However, it does make the wait that much more agonizing. Thank you so much for your prayers as we wait to bring our twins home!

Also, I am hoping to post pictures and prices of jewelry I will be selling for my fundraiser later this week. But in the meantime, here is the link again to my gofundme page if you haven’t been able to look at it yet:

Please spread the word about my fundraiser, my gofundme page, and the link to this blog as I will be posting all the things I am selling on here. Thank you!

Betsie & Corrie Day

Today marks 5 months of waiting! Only 7 more to go. Peter, Nathan, Elijah and I made cupcakes to celebrate. They are homemade yellow cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting. Here is a picture of one:

Have a fantastic rest of your day!

Name Changes!

A post by Mary Eby

We recently decided to change the twins’ names to something totally different. They are now going to be Betsie Karen and Corrie Marie.

We were also officially matched with the twins! We are very excited about this as we have been waiting for it for awhile now. Unfortunately, I still cannot share the twins’ pictures.

I hope you all have a great day!

A and L Day

A post by Mary Eby

Sorry its been so long since I last wrote on here. We just finished our last week of school, Hannah recently came home from college for the summer and had her wisdom teeth pulled, and Nathan had surgery last Friday; so I’ve been kinda busy.

As I said earlier, the 24th of every month is going to be the day that we eat cupcakes to document out wait for our twins. We were calling it “Abigail and Bethany Day” because that’s what we were originally going to call the twins. However, we have received their actual names since then. We cannot put them online, so I can’t tell you what they are, but I can tell you that one of them starts with an A, and the other with an L. So on this blog, I will refer to it as A and L Day.

Also, we got two updated pictures of the twins last week. It was a total surprise, as we were not expecting to receive any new information on them until all our paperwork gets to Nigeria. I also cannot share these pictures, just because we’re not official yet.

Nathan’s surgery on Friday was the bone graft, where they take bone from his hip and pack it into his jaw. It’s a two part thing, and Peter already has had both of them.

Here is a picture of our last A & L Day:

How Long can a Wait Be?

A post by Mary Eby

Yesterday Mom and Dad had their Nigeria Orientation phone call. As it turns out, all the waits have become longer than what we originally heard. Right now, we are racing to get the dossier changes and paperwork done for Nigeria. We are praying that will all be done in a month or two. Thankfully, the clock is ticking on our year-long wait before the first trip. Since we received the word that the wait had begun on March 24th, we have decided that we are going to have cupcakes on the 24th of every month. We had planned on doing something each month until we got matched, but we got matched so quickly. So now we need a fun tradition while we wait to go see them.

However, what used to be a 6 week trip to Nigeria to meet the twins has turned into a 6-8 week trip. Also, the 4-8 months at home after the 6-8 week trip before we go back to bring them home has turned into 12-15 months. We can’t imagine leaving two members of our family in Nigeria for over a year alone. Yet, it is very unrealistic for all of us to live in Nigeria for over a year. My Dad has to work, and he wouldn’t want the rest of us living in Nigeria without him, as it is a very dangerous country.

As a family, we have decided to pray daily that God will make a way for us to bring them home quicker than we’ve been told. Until we have them in our arms, we must trust God to care for them, and we know that He can care for them way better than we can.

“Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in His holy habitation.” Psalm 68:5

“Whatever the LORD pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps. He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightnings for the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses.” Psalm 135:6-7

“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him have no lack!” Psalm 34:8-9

If you know Christ as Savior, please join us in praying for our twins in Nigeria and that, if it be God’s will, He would make a way for us to be able to get them speedily.

Already Matched!!!

A post by Mary Eby

Wow! The past few months have been crazy. So, on December 7th, our coordinator at the adoption agency called Mom. Mom wasn’t going to answer it, because we were busy when the phone rang. But I told her she should, and she did. The coordinator told Mom that she had received part of a file of twin three-year-old girls. She said they matched our family perfectly, and she knew she had to tell us about them. There was just one big surprise- they’re in Nigeria, not Haiti. Prior to that phone call, we didn’t even know where Nigeria is on a map. After a few hours of prayer and consideration, we decided they were a part of our family, and we wanted to adopt them. However, since all of our finished paperwork is in Haiti, there is a lot to be done to move it to Nigeria. For the past little while, we have been waiting to receive their full file, as it was not yet finished and they wouldn’t give it to us until it was. Finally on March 3, we received the girls’ files and pictures. We wrote our Letter of Intent to adopt them, and on March 24 the Ministry in Nigeria stamped our letter. This stamp begins our year-long wait before we can travel to Nigeria. We don’t know why it’ll take a year; that’s just the way it goes. But at least during part of this year we will be kept busy switching over all our documents to Nigeria. Once we are given the go-ahead to travel, we will all go to Nigeria to live there with the twins for 6 weeks. After this, we will leave and go home without them for 4-8 months while everything is finalized. Then, we travel back to Nigeria to bring them home.

So it’ll probably be about 2 more years before they’re home. It is so hard to wait, but we are trusting God with it. We already love them so much, and can’t wait for the day when we finally get to meet them. They are so cute! We have not yet decided on names, and unfortunately, we aren’t supposed to share any pictures online until all of our paperwork and such is in Nigeria.

So for now, we are waiting and hopefully going to start more paperwork soon!

Have a great Easter remembering what Christ did for his elect:

“Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. And when they came to the place that is called The skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. And Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.'”

“One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, ‘Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!’ But the other rebuked him, saying, ‘Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.’ And he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom,’ And He said to him, ‘Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.'”

Luke 23:32-34a & 39-43

“Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, ‘This man is calling Elijah.’ And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. But the others said, ‘Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.’ And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.

“And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened. And many of the bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, ‘Truly this was the Son of God.'”

Matthew 27:45-54

“But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, ‘Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.’ And they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.'”

Luke 24:1-9
